The Arms Reach Bistro – A Hidden Gem

One of the many reasons to go to Deep Cove is for the quality of fresh ingredients you can find at its local restaurants, most notably the Arms Reach Bistro. If you’re coming to Vancouver, you have to visit this little gem: Ranked #2 of 147 restaurants in North Vancouver by Trip Advisor.

Location

Located at the end of Gallant Avenue with stunning vistas of the Indian Arm, islands, waterfront properties and tree lined mountains; you’d be hard pressed to find a better location for a restaurant.

Food

The quality of the food they serve certainly lives up to the views. I could happily eat anything on any of their menu’s (Brunch, Prix fix, Lunch or Dinner). Here are some of my favourite lunchtime dishes:

Starters

– Seared beef carpaccio with rosemary garlic aioli, capers, shaved parmesan, and crostini’s. $11

– Calamari frito, tossed lightly in seasoned flour, flash-fried, and served with spicy marinara. $14

– Fresh Saltspring Island mussels with white wine, bacon, leeks and fresh thyme. Served with hand-cut fries. $20 (This can suffice as a main & just so you know, their hand-cut fries are the best on the planet!)

Pastas & Curries

– Spicy Spaghetti. Chorizo, chopped prawns, lemon zest, garlic, chilies, olive oil and tomato sauce. $18

– Seafood Linguine. Chopped prawns, Dungeness crab, olive oil, garlic, chilies, lemon zest, tomato and fresh tarragon. $19

– Curried butter chicken with cashews, ginger, cilantro, and madras. In a tomato yogurt sauce with jasmine rice. $16  *Gluten free pasta available for all dishes*

Sandwiches

– B.L.T.A.C.: sun-ripened avocado and Canadian cheddar in a classic bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich on ciabatta. $14

– Gaspe shrimp sandwich with smoked west coast salmon, butter lettuce, and lemon mascarpone on ciabatta. $16

– Shaved roasted beef with grainy mustard aioli, caramelized onions, and Gruyere cheese served on a brioche bun. $15

– Bistro Burger: stilton cheese, bacon, vine-ripened tomato, caramelized onion and garlic aioli on a brioche bun. $16

Desserts

I’m not the biggest fan of desserts, especially not at lunch, but these two desserts I’d eat for breakfast!

– Flourless chocolate cake with raspberry coulis, Chantilly cream and pistachio brittle. $9

– Summer peach and Tahitian vanilla bean Créme brûlée. $8
